     1) Bad CRC

     Adron emailed - I'm getting a bad CRC message when downloading
     and trying to unzip a file. I tried again but to no avail. What
     is the problem?

     *** Bad download, a few bytes were lost or crossed. Delete all
     temporary internet cache files. Delete all Windows temp and tmp
     files. Create a new folder then try again it WILL work.

     3) Windows Update Fails On Old Reinstall

     OSProf posted - As a result of perpetual blue screens, I needed
     to re-install Windows XP on my 3-year-old Dell from the
     manufacturer's installation CD.

     Previously, I had kept everything up to date with Windows
     updates. However, the reinstallation caused Windows and Internet
     Explorer to revert to their old versions (IE 6 and SP2, without
     any of the security updates of the last three years). After
     installation, I tried to update to SP3; it downloaded the update
     successfully, but the installation failed.

     Therefore, I tried "Custom updates." It downloaded 96 updates
     successfully,including the IE7 installer, but none of them
     successfully installed. I uninstalled a bunch of software,
     including Norton Internet Security and Google Desktop, but this
     did not help.

     4) Defrag Takes Too Long

     Arnot asked - When I defrag my PC it takes forever. What can I do
     to speed it up?

     *** Do this first:

     1. Delete all Windows temp and tmp files

     2. Most important of all, delete all temporary Internet cache
     files.

     5) PC Shutting Off

     rfdjr1 wrote - The past few days, my computer (3-1/2 year old P4
     3,2Ghz, Windows XP Pro) has started shutting down suddenly for no
     reason. I mean, I'm not turning it off...

     *** Perhaps heat related. Clean your case fans, clean your cpu
     fan. Make sure all fans are running. Clean your cpu heatsink,
     it's prolly full of sticky dust. 3 1/2 years of operation is
     really due for a clean out of dust and sticky grime.
