2) Lost My XP Password

Benny Van asked - Simple question, I lost my local admin password for a XP box, and the machine is not in the domain. Could I run XP installation disk again and reset admin password from there?

*** Try:

3) 1.44 Floppy Drive Not Working

Cindy asked - My 1.44 floppy drive cant read any disks I've made using XP. Is it bad?

*** Most likely not. Most often it just needs to be cleaned:

Get a cleaning kit, it comes with a disk made of felt and a small bottle of cleaning fluid. Blow out the floppy drive _first_ with "compressed air".

Then be liberal when applying the cleaning fluid to the special disk, generally a white felt 1.44. Put it in the floppy drive, try to read the disk about 20 times. Of course it wont read it but the wet felt will clean the floppy heads.

Wait ten minutes. Then put a disk in that you dont need and try to read it several times. After that the drive should be fixed.

4) Free Drive Image/Backup App

A free drive image/backup program to try:

5) Just For Fun

My son just did a new Photoshop Vector. Very fun to watch and listen to:

The new video is at: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DEF_FdH1vW4

And another: http://youtube.com/watch?v=MOOhm392S10

*** Secondly, the WayBackMachine can also be fun:

An example:

########################################
6) Dupe File Finder

Ritter 197 wrote - I am looking for a DUP finder. Who has good experiences with one?

*** There are many free ones, but most people get in trouble using them. eg a dupe file finder may find 3 instances of the same .dll in three different folders, but, many apps want to "find" the .dll in their own folder, not in a windows folder or another folder.

########################################
7) System Protection

kdickinson posted - How can I restrict users from changing the sound volume level? Our security department has setup audio alarm notices on some of their computers, but if the users lower or mute the volume they can not hear the alarms.

AO3 recommended:
Look at "Steady State". It is a free download from MS. Here is a link Windows SteadyState: Disk and System Protection:

8) Partition Recovery Ware

Rodney Rogers posted - 2 Hard drive not recognized. Using windows XP home edition service pack 2. It has a lot of information that I would like to save.

blackfox responded:
So if you want to revover partitions from that disk try to use TestDisk:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/

*** Of course keep in mind that your hard disk may not respond to any HDD recovery software or file recovery software. That's just another reason to make sure you have at least 2 sources of backups for all your data.
